Over the last year, Critical Race Theory (CRT) has become increasingly prominent in discussions of politics, education, and diversity across the country.  Coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw over three decades ago, the term is not new; however, until recently, its use remained largely limited to academia and think tanks.

Despite the frequent reference in the media, by candidates for office, and within public discourse, what CRT actually means remains unclear to many.  What exactly is CRT?  How does it differ from expanding U.S. history curricula to include information previously left out of grade school textbooks?  Can a fuller understanding of CRT help advance productive conversations around race in America?

Join us for a panel discussion that will explore these questions from legal, historical, and educational perspectives.  Prior to this event, attendees are encouraged to review a recent Washington Post article addressing this topic.
