Hosted by: Environmental Law Institute and ELI's Women in Environmental Law & Leadership (WELL)
Co-Sponsored by: Women's Bar Association of DC

Expert witnesses are a cornerstone of a robust legal system, helping courts understand complex technical or scientific issues. By allowing for a wider range of perspectives, experiences, and knowledge, diversity among expert witnesses can lead to better legal decisions, thereby elevating the credibility of expert testimony and fostering public trust in the justice system. Yet women were appointed or testified as the sole expert witness in just 9% of observed cases in 2023 according to an Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses survey.

Please join the Environmental Law Institute and ELI’s Women in Environmental Law & Leadership (WELL) initiative for a panel discussion about the gender disparity in expert witnesses, the benefit and importance of gender diversity in the legal system, and actions being taken to address it in the United States.

Panelists:
Kristin Robrock, Senior Managing Engineer, Exponent, Moderator
Cherine Foty, Associate, Covington & Burling
Joey Meldrum, Founding Partner, Monchamp Meldrum
Davina Pujari, Partner, WilmerHale
