The National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations is set to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a reunion event this October in Washington, DC. This milestone gathering will bring together members, past and present, to honor four decades of commitment to advancing women in the legal profession. Attendees will have the chance to reconnect, share experiences, and inspire one another in the nation’s capitol. Join us in celebrating NCWBA’s legacy and our ongoing mission to advocate for equality, diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal field.
In 1981, the Women’s Bar Association of DC (led by Presidents Judy McCaffrey and Susan Low) compiled a list of women’s bar associations across the nation. The Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia sent out letters to all the women’s bar associations on their list and asked them to send a representative to the 1981 American Bar Association (ABA) meeting in New Orleans. These state representatives and other women lawyers at the ABA meeting were gathered up to attend the first meeting. Participants at this initial meeting were enthusiastic about starting an organization of women’s bar associations, and the NCWBA was born.
The ABA helped in this organizational effort by providing a room for the 1981 meeting and by later granting the NCWBA a seat in the ABA House of Delegates. Later meetings of the group followed in 1982 in Detroit and San Francisco. By 1983, NCWBA was formally organized and elected its first officers and directors. At the 1991 ABA annual meeting, the House of Delegates recognized the NCWBA as an affiliate organization, with a seat in the House of Delegates. Timmerman Daugherty, who served as NCWBA’s ABA delegate for one year, cast the first vote at the February 1992 midyear meeting in Dallas.
The NCWBA 40th Anniversary Reunion & Reception is an evening of interactive programming and celebration as we reflect on the past and toast to the future! This special event is dedicated to alumni of NCWBA and its member organizations. Whether you’re a past member or interested in becoming part of our vibrant community, we welcome you to connect with our amazing “sisters-in-law.” Let’s celebrate, reconnect, and create new memories together!

Membership dues are nonrefundable.
Unless otherwise specified, event cancellations must be made two business days prior to the event to be eligible for a refund. Attendee substitutions are permitted.

This securely stored payment profile will be used, when authorized, for automated recurring payments and will allow for easier and faster checkouts. No credit card information is stored within Member365 (the WBA's website vendor) and all payment data is accessed by way of a secure API. Who can access the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia member portal?
Please note that the WBA member portal is to be used by members of WBA only. Certain workspaces within the member portal will be tailored for and restricted to certain membership types; access to these areas will be determined and approved by WBA staff. The Content that is displayed in your member portal will automatically vary based on your user / membership type.
